The Light Between Oceans 2016: Movie Review

The latest romantic drama of 2016 is “The Light Between Oceans.” The film is directed and written by Derek Cianfrance, and it is based on a novel of 2012 with the same name. M.L. Stedman wrote the novel. The film is made under the production of Reliance Entertainment, DreamWorks Pictures, Participant Media, and Heyday Films.

The film was premiered at the Venice Film Festival on 1st September 2016 and competed with the Golden Lion. The movie released today on 2nd September in India and US, it will be released on November 4th in the UK.

The Light Between Oceans: Story Plot

Tom (Michael Fassbender) is a lighthouse keeper and a war veteran and stays with his wife Isabel (Alicia Vikander) off the coast after the World War I in Western Australia. One day they found a baby girl in a boat that has washed off the coast. They rescue her and save her life.

Then they finally decide to adopt her and gave her a name Lucy. But as Lucy grows up they find it difficult to raise a child, and when they visited the mainland, women tried to threaten them and break their happy family.

The movie got an average response from the critics, and the review websites said” Rotten Tomatoes, the film an approval rating of 60%, based on 60 reviews, with an average rating of 6.1/10. The site’s critical consensus reads, “The Light Between Oceans presents a well-acted and handsomely mounted an adaptation of its bestselling source material, but ultimately tugs on the heartstrings too often to be effective.” On Metacritic, the film has an average score of 61 out of 100, based on 33 critics, indicating “generally favorable reviews”.

The Light Between Oceans is overall an average film with a good light story. The story is based on a best-seller novel, so already most of you must have read it. But the acting by the stars was amazing everyone did their part very well. So another good watch for this weekend from Hollywood.
