On Wednesday, Supreme Court has put to one side the controversial Singur land acquisition and asked state government to give back the land to farmers in 12 weeks. The verdict is a great victory for the Mamta Banerjee and a big shock for Tata Motors.
With the SC verdict, the controversial Singur land case is now over. People have to wait for a very long time for this verdict. In 2006, Left Front government was in power in West Bengal, when the land acquisition of 997.11 acres was made so that Tata Motor could set up its ambitious Nano Plant for manufacturing the cars in Singur.
The SC has said to the state government to give back 400 acres land to the cultivators who have been told to be real owners of the land. In 2008, Calcutta High Court verdict came for the land acquisition and Tata Motors as HC said that land acquisition is legal.
The SC said that the land acquisition is not made for the public purpose so the farmers should get back their land. SC has also said that Farmers need not pay back the compensation that they received from the government because they have been kept away from their land which is the source of their living for last ten years.
After coming to this verdict, Mamata Banerjee welcomed it and told that this verdict is the big victory of the cultivators, truth, and Maa-Maati-Manus. She also added that she and her people had passed as long time as 10 for this judgment.
Trinamool Congress TMC said that this verdict would open the eye for all such cases of land acquisition. TMC MP Kalyan Bandyopadhyay said that this was a long legal and political fight that they did for the public. He is the man who led this fight for his party. He further added that it took ten years when the court found that their party stand was right, and the acquisition was not legal.
He also said that the people of the West Bengal gave their judgment in 2009 as well as in 2011. He also mentioned about the 21 days’ fast that Mamta Banerjee had against the acquisition.
