Our little ones, goldfish, require proper care and whom would they rely on for this care? The answer is simple, yet sometimes complicated; it’s us! Ignorance to managing the common problems with goldfish may lead to various tragedies that we may not have even imagined.
Common Problems In Goldfish – Goldfish Diseases & Goldfish Care Tips
I love my angels – Amber and Ace, and I am sure, so do you; thereby, we would never want to risk their lives.
At this moment, similar to a fish keeper, we require a little patience with goldfish and adequate information to provide excellent goldfish care to them. Managing common problems with goldfish isn’t rocket science; if you heartily take their responsibility, everything can be managed lightly. My previous blogs have explained all about the requirements of goldfish aquarium; goldfish up-keeping techniques and goldfish food. Today, we will go through the various issues that we may face at some point in time with our goldfish.
Keep a check on the oxygen level in the aquarium – This is one common problem with goldfish that most of us may face. We may notice our goldfish assembling and moving towards the surface; this is because the oxygen level in the water has dropped; however, this isn’t a life-threatening issue; oxygen level shall boost once the temperature reduces in the fish tank; just move the fish tank away from the sun. If it still doesn’t work out, an air pump or a bubbler can also do this job.
They may be other possible reasons for goldfish to congregate to the surface; so I regularly keep a check on the pH, nitrate, ammonia, nitrite and oxygen levels.
Clean the cloudy water in the aquarium – There are chances that the fish tank water may turn cloudy/white or even yellow or green, despite taking the utmost care; however, if you notice it right away, it can be easily resolved; simply get the aquarium cleaned and the water changed. The causes may be certain bacteria, algae or plant decay; water recycling shall solve the problem with goldfish.
Monitor for goldfish ich – Most common disease that goldfish suffer is goldfish ich; it is a kind of parasite that is curable. Ich appears in the form of little white spots on their fins and bodies; when suffering from this disease, goldfish may face difficulty breathing. Immediately isolate the little one from plants and other living things in the fish tank, because this parasite is contagious.
Check for goldfish flakes – Second most common disease in goldfish is goldfish flakes; it is a parasite again, and you have to be available for the rescue, but how would you know that goldfish is infected with flukes? The little one shall start scratching against the surfaces; slightly redden; get a swollen belly, or may even develop mucus on the outer side. Again, just like goldfish ich, flukes is contagious too; thereby, our little finned angel must be immediately isolated once detected of goldfish flakes.
Examine for goldfish swimbladder – Ahh! This isn’t a parasite, it isn’t contagious and can be easily diagnosed and cured; goldfish will start swimming upside down or maybe even sideways. Don’t assume that the goldfish is enjoying a heavenly recreational swim, but it’s not doing that. Just take necessary precautionary measures when goldfish is detected of swimbladder disease.
Problems with Goldfish are bound to occur, no matter how best you have taken care of them; it is just other living creature after all. Take care of goldfish and take precautionary measures whenever required; we all want our little creatures to stay healthy and live longer. In case, if the goldfish dies, take immediate measures to dispose of it; clean the fish tank to keep it a healthy place for the rest of the goldfish to live.
Hopefully, I have covered most questions and queries regarding taming; up-keeping and solving problems with goldfish; incase if you still have any questions, please write to me and I will readily answer them!
